The need:

County Commissioners award MCSPCA a four acre land lease

In 1985 the MCSPCA was founded and in the past 21 years thousands of abused, abandoned, neglected and injured animals have been cared for and loving permanent homes have been found for these animals.  The work continues and is ever increasing.  To facilitate this work, the MCSPCA is in need of a facility.  The workload has exceeded the foster home system we currently have in place.                                               

Benefits to the County                                                                                                                                                                                                         MCSPCA would take animals that the County Shelter does not, animals under 8 weeks or over 5 years, owner surrender, fractious biting dogs, owner surrender, and sick or injured animals. MCSPCA would take ALL cats eliminating the burden on the County Shelter. In a partnership with Alterpet providing a low cost spay, neuter and vaccine clinic to low income county residents. Decreasing the number of unwanted animals and Providing a healthier and safer community  Provide greater visibility for County Shelter “One stop shop” for redemption and adoption. Training ( keep the animal in the home), behavior  assessments, children’s programs; prevent a bite, picking the right animal, animal care, animal cruelty awareness; the link to domestic violence. Increased good will for the County by visibly enabling a facility to be built and operated.

Building Design and operation

1. Building design facilitated by a committee consisting of a representative of the MCSPCA, a County Commissioner, and Architect.

2. Overview of building operation will be per a committee consisting of the MCSPCA Director, a County Commissioner, and the County Dog Warden. Concerns can be addressed in a timely manner. Building will be paid in full and property will be leased   at $1.00 per year for 30 years!

Medina County SPCA Animal Care Facility Requirements

General Lobby, Reception Area, Offices, Adoption/Get Acquainted Rooms, Meeting&Education Room, Bathrooms Kennel Rooms /  Runs, Cat Rooms QuarantineRooms, Exam /Euthanasia Room, Surgery Room Recovery Room, Laundry Room / Bathing Area and Storage.              

Outside Fenced dog exercise area, Run in Shed / Pasture area. All interior animal areas will have drains, sealed floors, and walls. Heating and Cooling will also handle ventilation. A  separate ventilation system will handle the quarantine rooms.
