2001 Adoptions

Jazmin was our first placement of the year.  She is a delightful 8 year old whom we had first placed 18 months ago.  Unfortunately, her young owner died and she again became available.  Jazmin was adopted by Chris & Larry Cassenti of MA.

Czar is a gentle 10 year old soul whose previous owner died unexpectedly.  We despaired of placing this elderly fellow when Barb & Jim Crosby of NH came to our rescue (pun intended) and swept him off to their home for geriatric Afghans.

Desireé is a lovely young lady who just celebrated her second birthday.  She was given up when her owner, who is in the military, was transferred to a new base where he could not have pets.  After being fostered by George & Donna Tsoukatas, Desireé was adopted by José Barnet of NJ.  She is enjoying her new life with Afghan brother Jack and Lady, another AHRNE alumna.

Colby is a youngster who came to AHRNE via a Massachusetts shelter.  He is a high energy chap who loves to romp and play and sit in the kitchen sink. (Yes, really!)  Colby was adopted by Toby & Bill Hanlon as a companion to their Afghan, Wilson, who was also adopted from AHRNE several years ago.  Wilson was lonely after the death of his elderly German Shepherd companion and needed a new playmate.  Colby should fit the bill admirably.
Zachary is a lovely 10 year old who was given up because his owner was working too many hours and was unable to give him the attention he deserved. Zach was fostered by Kathy & Dan Beecher who quickly learned was a sweet boy he was.  Jill Ditton was looking for a quiet Afghan as a companion for her two shy rescued Greyhounds.  Kathy & Dan introduced Jill to Zach and it was love at first sight.  Zach fit right in to Jill's household and every one is doing very well.

Moses is a young black masked red boy who was turned in to a Massachusetts shelter because of a lack of time to care for him.  After the shelter called us, he was picked up and fostered by Amy  and Colton Mero.  He was quite shy and under-socialized, but when he discovered that he was allowed to RUN in the fenced yard, he was in doggy heaven.  Joan & Thomas Swink of VT were on our waiting list and when they learned of Moses, Thomas drove right down to meet him.  Moses and Thomas bonded immediately and Moses went to his new home that night.

Gabriel spent his life tied out in the yard and neglected until the time he was turned over to rescue.  He is a sweet, gentle boy who is eager to please.  Happily, after a brief period in foster care, he was adopted by Deb Labb of Pennsylvania and will be enjoying his new life with another Afghan friend, Hudson.

Sadie #1 is a wonderful 10 year old black and tan girl who came back to AHRNE for the second time after her adoptive family divorced.  We were concerned about the difficulty of placing an older dog, however, Lena Bruce of NJ, who had recently lost her beloved Orrie, came to the rescue!   Sadie's age was not a concern to Lena and transportation from Sadie's foster home in Boston (thanks to Amy & Colton Mero!) to Lena was quickly arranged.

Sadie # 2 also came to rescue as the result of a divorce and moved to NJ!. This gentle, affectionate black girl was fostered by Robin Conway of VT and adopted by George Krammer and his family.  Sadie is able to go to work with George and take lovely walks on the beach with his family.

Gordie is a black-masked apricot 6 year old who was turned in to a MA shelter by his breeder. He is an affectionate, well-socialized guy who was fostered by Barb Hays of MA. Gordie was quickly adopted by Donna Moriarty of LI.

Sting is another 6 year old, apricot guy who was turned in to a NJ shelter for reasons unknown.  He quickly won the hearts of his foster parents, Kathy & Dan Beecher, who took him along on a home visit to Cathy Button.  Cathy also was won by his charm and it wasn't long before he made the move to Cathy's house.

Molly helped us end the year on a high note.  She and her roommate Digger (see 2002 adoptions) were turned in by their owner for the usual reasons (too busy, no time, divorce, etc, etc, etc).  After being fostered by Robin Conway, Molly was adopted by Marion Nieman in November.
Shiraz (right) was a 4 year old run away who found himself locked in a shelter in Delaware.  After all efforts to locate his owner failed, he was scheduled to be put down.  Afghan Hound Rescue heard of his plight and sprang him from his doom.  He was cleaned-up, vet checked and delivered to Kathy Pugh who fostered him for a short while until he found his permanent home with Chris and Bob Corsette.  Shiraz is now the master of the house and has flourished in his new surroundings.
