Sam
was near death when he arrived in rescue a few days before Christmas 1998
Responding to a
"free to good home" ad in the local paper, we were shocked at Sams
condition and rushed him for emergency vet care. Malnourished, matted, infested with
fleas, underweight, barely able to stand; Sam's immediate trust in his rescuer was
recognized. Shaved, bathed, vetted, and feed, Sam went with his rescuer to his foster home
where he dined on good food and met his family. Weeks passed as Sam grew stronger, and his
new friend Romeo gained weight. Sam and Romeo became inseparable; they played together,
slept together etc. But still Sam did nott stop shaking. Finally after many visits
to the vet, a series of tests and x-rays we learned Sam suffers from 3 slipped vertebrae
in his neck. No one knows for sure what trauma Sam experienced; however the vets
believe his injury to have been during a beating to the head with a heavy blunt object
